The shop adds another layer. You can spend gold or gems on Medical, Item Supply, Medal, and weapon packs such as Elite Guns. Some boxes give random rewards, so you may pull weapons, useful items, or rarer drops. It is a small gamble, but opening a box and hoping for something good is part of the fun.
