The ball is sitting at midfield, both players are ready, and neither one has legs. Soccer Snakes turns a familiar soccer match into a showdown between two clumsy snakes slithering around the field and trying to shove the ball into the net.
Once released from their cages, the snakes move forward on their own. You steer to chase down the ball, fall back on defense, or circle around for a better angle. In the standard match, the first snake to score 3 goals wins. You can face the CPU on your own or choose Player vs. Player and share the keyboard with a friend.
Nothing in Soccer Snakes ever goes quite according to plan. I tried circling behind the ball for a straight shot at the goal, only to turn too far and slither off in the wrong direction. Awkward moments like that often lead to ridiculous goals, including a few where even the scorer may not be entirely sure what just happened.
When you need more power, use a headbutt to send the ball farther across the field. Each boost drains energy, so holding it down nonstop will empty the meter in a hurry. Eating the glowing blue dots scattered around the field restores that energy, giving you another reason to move instead of camping beside the ball.
Playing against the CPU is a good way to get used to the unusual steering. Switch to Player vs. Player, and things get messy fast. Both snakes may end up circling the ball, blocking themselves, or accidentally setting up a goal for the other side.
