Welcome to Spongbob Among Us, a fun side-scrolling platformer on Woko Games! Seeing a goofy little astronaut from Among Us running around SpongeBob’s Bikini Bottom sounds completely random, but that is exactly what makes this simple Mario-style adventure so fun.
The campaign packs plenty of content with 100 levels split across 5 stage-select pages, giving you 20 stages per page on a neat 4×5 grid. You start out on Level 1 in that bright yellow box and have to clear each room in order to crack the locks on the next ones. Once you drop in, you guide a tiny yellow crewmate past legendary undersea landmarks: Patrick’s rock, Squidward’s Moai head house, and SpongeBob’s famous pineapple.
The gameplay takes direct cues from classic Mario. Your job is to run, time your jumps, smash overhead mystery bricks to collect gold coins, and grab hidden power-ups. You also have to keep an eye on the 300-second timer ticking down in the top bar. You get 3 lives (shown as red hearts) to clear hazardous drops, steer clear of water pits, and deal with wandering critters blocking your path.
When I first jumped in, I figured it was going to be a breeze and started spamming the Spacebar. In Level 1, with my clock down to 281 seconds and only 2 coins in my pocket, I spotted some floating yellow blocks right outside Squidward’s house. I hopped up to crack them, grabbed my coins, and landed right as a snail crept directly into my path. Instead of timing a clean Spacebar jump to stomp it flat like a Goomba, I panicked, mistimed my button press, and ran right into it, coughing up a red heart immediately.
The bright 2D visuals look just like the cartoon, complete with floating flower clouds, clear blue water, and a cute little waddling astronaut. Warm up your fingers, click into Level 1, bust open some coin blocks, and see how fast you can conquer all 100 stages!
