Hitting the gas over bumpy hills and flipping through the air is always a blast. Inspired by classic physics-based platformers like Hill Climb Racing, 2D Nitro Race (also known as Hill racing 2d) on Woko Games brings that fun, bouncy driving right to your browser. Developed and designed by Sunil Yadav, the game uses open-source art from OpenGameArt and Kenney along with royalty-free sound effects from freesound.
You play as a little robot driving a blue buggy through a dark forest full of steep hills. Unlike normal racing games, your main challenge here is keeping the car balanced so you don’t flip over and crash on your head. The buggy comes with a Nitro booster (the blue “N” gauge on the top left) to help you power up steep slopes in no time. Along the way, you collect gold coins and catch air to rack up points.
When I first jumped in, I kept holding down the gas and burning all my Nitro at once, which immediately flipped the car upside down. The game breaks down your run stats at the end, tracking your distance, coins collected, total jumps, and backflips (which hand out a massive 3,000 points each). Nailing the landing after a clean backflip while scooping up a row of gold coins feels great.
The keyboard controls give you full control over the buggy. Use the Up Arrow to accelerate, Down Arrow to brake or reverse, Left Arrow to lean back for mid-air flips, and Right Arrow to lean forward and level out for landing. You can also tap Space for the handbrake and hit Ctrl to fire the Nitro boost. If you are playing on a phone or tablet, you can just tap the on-screen arrow buttons.
How far can you drive without crashing, and what kind of high score can you set? Hop onto Woko Games, hit the Nitro, and see how steady your driving really is!
