description Description

Getting one caterpillar into the right cocoon sounds easy enough. The trouble in Cocoon Crossing starts when several of them share the same tiny board, each one taking up space and somehow getting in everybody else’s way.

The rules are simple at first. Drag the head or tail of a caterpillar and it moves across the board one tile at a time. Each caterpillar has its own color and needs to reach the matching cocoon. Blue goes to blue, pink goes to pink. Easy, right? Give it a few levels.

The Tutorial gives you up to 20 moves to figure things out. Crossing drops that to 11, while Meadow 1 gives you only 7. That was about when I stopped dragging things around just to see what happened. Every move starts to matter, especially when one caterpillar ends up parked right in another one’s path.

Things get trickier once the caterpillars start crossing paths. Two of them can’t share the same tile on the same level. If their routes cross, one has to use a bridge while the other goes through the tunnel underneath. With just two caterpillars, it’s manageable. Add three or four, and suddenly the board looks like rush hour.

I made the obvious mistake more than once: send the caterpillar closest to its cocoon home first. Seems smart. Then it gets there and blocks the route I needed for somebody else. Time to hit Undo. That’s where Cocoon Crossing gets fun. The solution usually isn’t complicated, but you do have to think a couple of moves ahead.

Later levels add rocks, mud, thorns, ice, and one-way gates. These obstacles make the shortest route a bad choice surprisingly often. Sometimes a caterpillar has to take the long way around just so another one can squeeze through. When a messy-looking board finally works out, it feels great.

The main game includes 140 handcrafted levels. There’s also an endless Zen Mode, a daily puzzle, and butterflies to collect. Levels can earn stars, and the game tracks your best move count. So even after solving a puzzle, there’s a good chance you’ll look at your score and think, “Yeah, I can do better”.

Luckily, mistakes are easy to fix. Undo lets you take back a move, Retry starts the level over, Hint can point you in the right direction, and Skip is there when one puzzle just refuses to cooperate. I used Undo plenty of times. No shame in that.

The 3D visuals keep the whole thing cute and easygoing. The boards sit inside a small garden filled with leaves, flowers, mushrooms, and wooden fences. The caterpillars are bright, round, and a little goofy-looking, which makes the game feel relaxed even when the puzzle itself is giving you trouble.

I also like how the caterpillars move. Their long bodies bend around the grid as you drag them through each tile, and watching the whole route come together is oddly satisfying. Once every caterpillar finally reaches the right cocoon, there’s that nice little feeling of, “Okay, that was cleaner than I expected”.

If you like pathfinding puzzles but want something more playful than plain blocks and arrows, Cocoon Crossing on Woko Games is easy to get into. The boards are small, the rules are clear, and one bad move is all it takes to turn your neat plan into a garden traffic jam.

Just get the caterpillars home. Try not to make spaghetti.
