You just grabbed the last apple and thought you were done. Not so fast! A key suddenly appears high above you, the exit door is way down below, and you’ve only got a few seconds left. Can you make it in time? That’s the kind of challenge waiting for you in Winki Tinli, a platform adventure game published by MB Entertainment and available to play online on Woko Games. You’ll help a little character jump across platforms, collect fruit, avoid enemies, and find his way to the exit in each level. Sounds easy, right? Well, don’t let his cute little face fool you!
Winki Tinli is a tiny boy dressed in blue, with a hood covering his head and a little face peeking out. His world is filled with floating platforms covered in green grass, with big gaps between them. Some platforms are higher than others, so getting around isn’t always as easy as running from one side to the other. There’s no straight path to the finish line. You’ll have to keep moving, jump between platforms, and figure out how to reach different parts of the level.
Your first job is to collect all the red apples scattered around the screen. Some are lined up above platforms, while others float in the spaces between them. You need to grab every apple before you can make your way to the exit. That means you can’t just run straight ahead and hope for the best. Take a look at where the apples are and think about the easiest way to reach them. For example, if you spot two rows of apples above a high platform, try to collect them in one trip instead of having to climb back up later. Missing just one apple can mean going all the way back across the level!
Here’s where Winki Tinli gets a little more interesting. Unlike many platform games, the exit isn’t always there waiting for you from the start. Once you’ve collected all the fruit, a key and a door appear. But the level isn’t over just yet! You still need to grab the key and make your way to the door to unlock it. Sometimes the key is high up while the wooden door is sitting near the bottom of the level. So collecting the apples is really only half the challenge. You still have to get out before the clock hits zero.
I like how the game makes you think about more than just collecting things. If grabbing all the fruit were enough to win, you could run around picking apples in whatever order you wanted. But once the key and door show up, your plans can change pretty quickly. One minute you’re jumping up to reach the last few apples, and the next you’re trying to get back down as fast as possible. Seeing only 14 seconds on the clock when you’re still nowhere near the exit is a little stressful. At that point, the last thing you need is a badly timed jump!
Luckily, Winki Tinli has a double jump to help him out. Press the Up Arrow key to jump, then press it again while you’re in the air to jump a second time. It’s a handy move when you need to cross a wide gap or get up to a higher platform. Just don’t assume that having a double jump means you can make every jump without thinking. You still need to pay attention to the distance between platforms and time your moves carefully. Jump too early or head in the wrong direction, and you might miss the platform you were aiming for. Then you’ll have to figure out how to get back on track.
And collecting apples isn’t the only thing you have to worry about in Winki Tinli. There are also enemies and traps waiting to get in your way. You’ll need to avoid them while trying to grab all the fruit before time runs out. Sometimes the shortest path isn’t the safest one. You might need to change direction, jump over a dangerous spot, or take another route to stay out of trouble. Nothing is more frustrating than getting close to finishing a level and finding another obstacle right in front of you. The clock is still ticking, and now you have to decide whether to push forward or find another way around. Running as fast as you can won’t help much if you’re heading straight into trouble!
Winki Tinli has a retro pixel art style that feels like something from an old-school platform game. The little character is made up of simple pixels, with easy-to-follow running and jumping animations. The platforms have brown dirt underneath and bright green grass on top, while the background has a soft green diamond pattern. There’s even a border around the play area that gives it the look of a classic video game screen. You won’t find fancy 3D graphics or huge special effects here, but everything is clear and easy to see. The red apples stand out against the green platforms, so you can quickly spot where you need to go.
What I find interesting about Winki Tinli is that knowing how to jump isn’t enough. You also need to plan where you’re going. If you chase every apple as soon as you see it, you’ll probably waste a lot of time running back and forth. A better approach is to take a quick look around when the level starts, spot the groups of apples, and work out a route that lets you collect them without too much backtracking. Once they’re all gone, focus on getting the key and reaching the door. After a few attempts, you might notice a shortcut or a better route you missed the first time.
Winki Tinli doesn’t need giant boss fights or a superhero with crazy powers to be fun. A few platforms, some apples, a key, and a ticking clock are enough to give you a good challenge. Play Winki Tinli on Woko Games and help this little guy in blue make it through each level before time runs out. Maybe you’ll pull off a perfect run, grab every apple, and reach the exit with time to spare. But if you finally make it to the door and realize you forgot the key, well, that’s going to be an awkward trip back. Poor Winki Tinli probably wishes you’d checked your pockets first!
