description Description

Which screw should come out first? There may only be a few choices, but I picked the wrong one on my first try. A metal bar moved somewhere I didn’t expect, so I hit reset and tried again. That’s pretty much Screw Master in a nutshell: the rules are simple, but it pays to look before you click. The game is published by gamesmunch.com and can be played right in your browser on Woko Games.

Screw Master is easy to figure out. Each puzzle has metal bars held in place by screws. You use the mouse to remove the screws and slowly free the pieces from the board. Once a screw comes out, a metal bar may swing or move into a new position. That means the most obvious screw isn’t always the best one to remove first.

The early puzzles are pretty straightforward, with a single metal bar and only a few screws to deal with. They give you a chance to see how the pieces move when a screw is removed. Later puzzles start stacking several metal bars on top of each other, with more screws holding everything together. At that point, I usually spent a few seconds checking which bar was sitting on top before making my first move.

That’s also what I enjoyed most about Screw Master. Some puzzles look messy at first, but removing the right screw can suddenly make the whole setup easier to understand. Other times, I clicked the screw that seemed like the obvious choice, only to realize another bar was still trapped underneath. There isn’t much to memorize here. The challenge is mostly about figuring out the right order.

You get 1 minute to solve each level in Screw Master. The countdown timer sits at the top of the screen, so you have to keep an eye on the clock while working out which screws to remove. Sixty seconds sounds like plenty at first, but it feels a lot shorter once several metal bars are overlapping and you need a moment to think through your next move.

If things aren’t going your way, the reset button in the upper-left corner lets you start the puzzle again. I ended up using it more often than I expected. Sometimes you can tell after just one or two moves that your plan isn’t going to work, and starting over is easier than trying to fix the mess.

Solve the puzzle and the screen fills with confetti. It’s a simple effect, but I like it. After staring at screws and metal bars for a while, trying to decide what should come loose first, that little burst of confetti makes getting the answer right feel a bit more satisfying.

Screw Master keeps the graphics simple. The puzzle board has a yellow, metal-like surface, while the screws and bars use silver, orange, and other colors that make the pieces easy to tell apart. There isn’t much visual clutter, which is useful when you need to pay attention to every screw and see how the metal bars overlap.

The game features different puzzles built around metal plates, blocks, bolts, and rings. The layouts also change as you play. Some puzzles have a single bar to deal with, while others place several pieces across and on top of one another. So the real challenge isn’t just removing screws. It’s taking a second to read the board before you start clicking.

After playing Screw Master for a while, I caught myself doing the same thing over and over: looking at a screw, moving the cursor toward it, then stopping for a second because I wasn’t so sure anymore. That little moment of doubt is part of the fun. A puzzle may only have a handful of screws and metal bars, but one move in the wrong order can change the whole setup.

Give Screw Master a try on Woko Games and see how many puzzles you can work through. And if the whole thing goes sideways after your very first click… well, that reset button in the corner is there for a reason.
